The town was littered with debris from last nights storm and community members shared their initial reactions to what they saw and heard, including one homeowner who experienced the brunt of the storm a little too close to home. “We were watching those trees as they were almost falling over, and then we see a branch and a loud thud, and my wife thought it was thundering and I’m like nope, it’s a tree,” Michael Tawyea said.

Massillon hosts Arbor Day tree planting ceremony in Community Park

The Independent MASSILLON – About a dozen curious seeds showed up on a cool Friday morning to give life to a tree in Community Park. Representatives from the city of Massillon, FirstEnergy electric service company and Wright Tree Service assisted with a tree-planting ceremony to honor Arbor Day. This is something we do (about) every year at a different Massillon park, said Steve Pedro, director of the city s Parks and Recreation Department. Last year s Arbor Day celebration was canceled due to the COVID-19 crisis, Pedro said. First Energy donated a small pine tree that was planed in a northwest section of the park. Workers from Wright prepped the ground.

First Energy kicks off tree trimming operations First Energy Corporation WILLIAMSPORT, Md.–Potomac Edison, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp., has kicked off its 2021 tree trimming program with plans to clear vegetation along approximately 1,670 miles of power lines in its Maryland service area and1,550 miles of lines in its territory in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia. Beginning this year,Potomac Edison’s Maryland vegetation management cycle is being shortened to four years instead of five, resulting in work along an additional 300 miles of lines annually.The four-year cycle will allow Potomac Edison to reach more Maryland communities each year and prevent a greater number of tree-related outages annually, enhancing service reliability for customers. With the shortened cycle, Potomac Edison will trim 6,059 circuit miles every four years in Maryland.

Ohio Edison announces $22 million tree-trimming program

Repository staff report Power company workers will soon line area highways, trimming trees and cutting back other vegetation. Lauren Siburkis, spokeswoman for Akron-based Ohio Edison, said the company s $22 million tree-trimming program is underway over the 5,050 miles of power lines stretching throughout 34 counties. This year s $22 million tree-trimming program will help keep power flowing to customers around the clock by preventing tree-related outages, such as those that can occur during the spring and summer storm season, she said in a prepared statement. Siburkis said the trimming is conducted on a four-year cycle. The program includes inspecting vegetation near the lines to ensure the trees are pruned in a manner that helps preserve the health of the tree while also maintaining safety near electric facilities. Trees that present a danger or are diseased may be removed, she said.
