COVID-19: Ontario reports 2,357 new cases, Ford continues emergency meetings

Ontario reported 2,357 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday, the fifth consecutive day that more than 2,000 infections had been added to the province’s total.
That included 665 new cases in Toronto and 448 in Peel Region, where lockdowns have been extended until at least Jan. 4, plus 174 new cases in York Region, 170 in Windsor-Essex County and 118 in both Niagara Region and Hamilton.

The latter will also move into lockdown on Monday.
“The trends we’re seeing throughout Ontario are very concerning,” Premier Doug Ford tweeted Friday. He met with CEOs of all Ontario hospitals earlier in the day and said that emergency meetings would continue over the weekend. A public update is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Monday. ....

Ottawa ICUs COVID-19 free for first time since September

OTTAWA
Ottawa Public Health says there are currently no patients in Ottawa ICUs with COVID-19 complications.
The latest update from OPH on Saturday shows 20 hospitalized patients in the city, but zero in any intensive care unit.
OPH reported 46 more people in the city have tested positive for COVID-19, but the number of people with active cases went down slightly.
Ontario health officials confirmed 2,357 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday along with 27 new deaths. 1,865 recoveries have also been reported. Public Health Ontario reported 40 new cases in Ottawa.
