Coroner slams Victoria Police for show of force at inquest of Aboriginal man

Aboriginal man Raymond Noel Lindsay Thomas was on his way home from a supermarket trip to pick up a block of chocolate when police spotted his unregistered Holden Commodore and initiated a pursuit.
Raymond Noel, as his friends and family knew him, never made it home. He died following a 21-second police chase that should never have happened, the Coroner’s Court heard on Friday during closing submissions at the inquest into the 30-year-old man’s death.
Victoria Police were heavily criticised in court by the counsel assisting the coroner for the events that took place on the streets of Northcote on the night of June 25, 2017, but also for what occurred outside the court this week. ....
