WELLSVILLE The public comment period on the Village of Wellsville Police Reform and Reinvention Plan opened Monday, and the early returns are encouraging.
During Monday night’s village board meeting, Mayor Randy Shayler read an email from a resident thanking a Wellsville police officer for going above and beyond the call of duty. The officer, PJ Sherman, stopped to help a soon to be 80-year-old resident chip ice from her driveway on a frigid January day. The email was written by the woman’s daughter. ....

Genesee River communities move forward on Local Waterfront Revitalization Program

WELLSVILLE Allegany County communities along the Genesee River are banding together in a shared vision for future development.
The Village of Wellsville last week formally authorized an agreement with Ingalls Planning and Design of Fairport to move forward with the Genesee River Local Waterfront Revitalization Program.
Each municipality in Allegany County that touches the Genesee River signed off on joining the effort the village and town of Wellsville, along with Angelica, Amity, Belmont, Belfast, Caneadea, Hume, Scio and Willing.
The Local Waterfront Revitalization Program (LWRP) puts together plans to guide development decisions. The LWRPs for each community will address public access, recreational opportunities, tourism and economic development, and identify ways to sustainably capitalize on the region’s natural and cultural assets. ....

Wellsville Village Board remembers former police chief

WELLSVILLE â As Village Mayor Randy Shayler opened the village boardâs last meeting of 2020 Monday night, he took time to remember former police chief Tim Walsh, who passed away Dec. 21.
Saying, âWellsville has another ambassador in heaven,â in reference to the death earlier this year of former police chief Jim Cicirello, Shayler continued, âOur condolences go out to Timâs wife, Margaret, his sons, Robert, Michael and Bryan, his brother, Shaun, and his sister, Mary Kate Cole, and the entire Walsh family.
Walsh, 62, was a native of Wellsville. He started a 42-year career in law enforcement working dispatch with the Wellsville Police Department. After working as a patrolman in Alfred, Walsh returned to the Wellsville PD and rose through the ranks. ....

With the news last week that the massive Siemens Dresser Rand facility in Wellsville is being repurposed as the Wellsville Business Park, and actively recruiting new tenants, the Allegany County Board of Legislators Chairman said the site may soon return to its position as a job creator for the region.
“It wasn’t long ago everybody was wondering what is it we’re going to do with this facility?” Crandall said. “This facility has a long history in Allegany County for manufacturing and providing jobs. It has been an integral part of our history in Allegany County. With this move and positioning it like this, it looks like it will remain an integral part of Allegany County and beyond. It really has the potential for a regional impact in New York state and northern Pennsylvania.” ....

Allegany County business park filling Wellsville Dresser-Rand space

WELLSVILLE A major Allegany County industrial facility might not be vacant for much longer.
The former Siemens Dresser Rand plant has new ownership that plans to turn the facility into Allegany County’s first-ever large scale industrial park.
On Friday, officials from the Village of Wellsville, Allegany County, and the new owners of the property, Wellsville Business Park LLC, unveiled a plan to ensure the former Siemens Dresser Rand facility stays active and open as the “Wellsville Business Park.”
Wellsville Business Park LLC is based in Rochester, led by Secretary and Treasurer Alan Knauf and President Joe Meindl.
We re very excited about this opportunity, said Knauf. We know Wellsville is a great community, has a lot of hard-working, skilled and well-educated people who are looking for new opportunities.
