Gov. Kevin Stitt signed a bill making Oklahoma a Second Amendment Sanctuary despite some questions if it will hold up in court.
Oklahoma joined Alaska, Idaho, Kansas, Wyoming, and Arizona, plus hundreds of counties nationwide, in declaring themselves a Second Amendment Sanctuary — a state that declares any law or order to confiscate or buy back firearms to be unconstitutional. Texas lawmakers are also considering a similar measure.
Pittsburg County Sheriff Chris Morris was among several Oklahoma sheriffs to declare their counties a Second Amendment Sanctuary last year — and he advocates the state s governor signing the bill into law. ....

Excessive teacher professional development requirements addressed
OKLAHOMA CITY — Legislation to examine excessive teacher professional development training for Oklahoma’s public school teachers passed the House Common Education Committee Tuesday with a vote of 13-0.
House Bill 1593, authored by Rep. Melissa Provenzano, D-Tulsa, modifies how often teachers are required to complete professional development hours by reducing the frequency of four educator trainings out of the 27 currently required by state statute.
HB1593 is now eligible to be heard on the House floor.

Area representative files bill to establish fund fighting human trafficking

An Oklahoma lawmaker filed a bill to establish a fund to combat human trafficking with money obtained through fees charged for the number of patrons of live adult entertainment establishments in Oklahoma.
District 15 State Representative Randy Randleman filed House Bill 2931 that would create the Human Trafficking and Child Exploitation Revolving Fund.
The bill would require live adult entertainment establishments in the state to record daily the number of customers admitted to the business and would require a $5 “admission fee” for each customer paid by the establishment to the Oklahoma Tax Commission.
According to the text of the proposed bills, live adult entertainment establishments would not be required to impose “the tax on customers of the establishment.” ....
