The No. 1 Gators Gymnastics team started their season off with a dominant win in Auburn against the No. 14 Tigers. Now, the Gators returned home to face their rival: the No. 7 Georgia GymDogs. Since the Gators lost their last meet against Georgia at the O’Connell Center in 2019, Florida was eager to make a statement win in their home opener. Contributing to this score, both junior Savannah Schoenherr and freshman Ellie Lazzari earned 9.825. Senior Megan Skaggs and junior Nya Reed both were rewarded scores of 9.850. With a score that would prove to win the event on the night, junior Trinity Thomas delivered with a 9.900 to finish off the vault for Florida. ....
No. 1 Gator Gymnasts Open Home Action with Win Over No. 7 Georgia GAINESVILLE, Fla. – No. 1 Florida gymnastics opened home action Friday with a win over its most frequent opponent. Florida started home action with a 197.25 – 196.075 win over No. 7 Georgia in front of a sold-out reduced capacity Exactech Arena at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center crowd of 2,203. It was the 154th meeting between the two programs and tonight marked the 60th time one of the program’s brought the No. 1 ranking into a meeting. TONIGHT’S MEET The Gators won the four apparatus titles. Junior Trinity Thomas won opening two event titles. She used a 9.90 to claim her second consecutive vault title of 2021, then upped her season-high to 9.95 for the season’s first uneven bars win. ....
