Count begins in vote for a union at Amazon in Alabama – The Militant

ATLANTA “I feel like everybody is watching us and we’re really making a difference and making a change when it comes to everybody sticking together and standing together,” Darryl Richardson, an outspoken supporter of the fight to win union recognition for the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union at Amazon’s giant fulfillment center in Bessemer, Alabama, said on National Public Radio March 28.
Richardson was the first worker at the Bessemer facility to contact the RWDSU last year after the warehouse opened. He was soon joined by others who agreed that they needed to come together and get organized as a union, to fight to defend themselves from boss harassment and for higher wages and more humane working conditions. Like some other workers at Amazon, Richardson had years of experience as an active union member before getting hired at Amazon. ....

SWP campaign says struggles can help build stronger unions – The Militant

Bernie Senter, Socialist Workers Party candidate for California State Senate, and his supporters campaigned at the Marathon Petroleum refinery shift change in Carson, California, Feb. 23, and urged workers to join in building support for locked-out Marathon refinery workers in Minnesota.
Some workers who pulled over commented that their Steelworkers local had contributed funds to the locked-out Teamsters. Fifteen workers bought copies of the paper with the headline “Solidarity with Marathon Oil Workers in Minnesota” to learn more about this important fight. ....

SWP: 'Join in, build support for workers' struggles' – The Militant

After campaign supporters turned in seven times the number of required signatures, Gerardo Sánchez, Socialist Workers Party candidate for Dallas City Council, was certified for the ballot Feb. 10. 
Supporters of the campaign of Joe Swanson, the party’s candidate for City Council in Lincoln, Nebraska, will finish collecting signatures needed to get on the ballot over the Feb. 20 weekend. Swanson will speak at a Lincoln campaign forum that day in support of locked-out Marathon oil refinery workers in Minnesota.  ....
