AMES, Iowa A week of events, lectures and panel discussions at Iowa State University will focus on women: their strengths, contributions and challenges faced.
Women’s Week 2021, scheduled for March 8-12, is part of Women’s History Month, with the goal of empowering and highlighting strong women around the world. ISU Student Government created Women’s Week in recognition of the need to empower women to continue fighting for equity and to take on leadership positions.
Anna Olson, senior director of communications for ISU Student Government and junior in journalism and mass communication from Boone, says talking with women from around the world through her internship with the Iowa Resource for International Service inspired the series of events. Olson coordinated with Eliana Crabb, director of outreach for ISU Student Government and senior in hospitality management from Kenosha, Wisconsin, to brainstorm a way to bring awareness to the ....

Ames City Council moves forward with citizen Climate Action Plan task force

The Ames City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to move forward with the reinvestment district pre-application that could fund a new municipal pool and bring more development downtown.
City officials presented the pre-application for the Reinvestment District, the state program that could give new life to building an aquatics center. The current municipal pool is set for demolition in 2022. 
The pool has all the elements people wanted before, City Manager Steve Schainker said. With all the development you see coming on, we re going to draw a lot of people downtown.
The city set a fundraising goal of $8 million to help fund the aquatics center. The aquatics center project will cost $27 million and will be funded primarily through general obligation bonds, as the rebate won t be paid upfront.  ....
