An East Lincoln High School junior made her way to the final rounds of the Blumey Awards. Rachel Ochoa was one of two students from East Lincoln nominated from this yearâs 34 participating schools who took part in a Blumey Awards Bootcamp, a two-day audition workshop intensive led by industry professionals. The workshop culminated with a second round of auditions for a panel of judges. Arturo Galarza Chavez from East Lincoln and two students from North Lincoln High School, Jacob Nuhfer and Riley Washco attended the workshop along with Ochoa. Ochoa will now be taking part in the High School Musical Theater Awards, also known as The Blumey Awards, presented by Wells Fargo that will air on PBS Charlotte Tuesday, May 25 at 8 p.m. Ochoa has the potential of being named Best Actress overall and if so, will go on to participate in the National High School Musical Theater Awards, also known as The Jimmy Awards (named after famed Broadway producer, James M. Thereâs always costuming and make-up that has to be done for a theatrical performance but creating an ogre for âShrek The Musicalâ involved a good bit of creativity for drama students at East Lincoln High School. âWith Shrek, you have to create an ogre and weâve done that through prosthetics,â Gregory Franklin, East Lincoln High Schoolâs director of choral music and theatre arts said. âWe made a latex cowl, which is reusable for every show, but the latex mask is new each show. About a month ago, we created a mold to Elijahâs (Caudle) face so that mold is what we use to create the face for every show. It gets stuck on, painted and smoothed in. Itâs a very unique experience, but heâs also miserably hot because heâs already in a fat suit and when we put the prosthetics on, itâs really hot. The Herald News SOMERSET Rachel B. Ochoa was one of 47 young persons recognized by the Fall River Diocese for service to their parishes in a virtual ceremony in December. Ochoa was nominated by Father Jason Brilhante, parochial administrator at St. John of God Church in Somerset. She received the award from him after the 10:30 Mass on Sunday, Dec. 20. For several years, Ochoa has shared her singing talent by practicing with the First Holy Communion class in preparation for their first time to receive the Eucharist.
