2021 Town Plate at Clevedon Sailing Club by Martin Gibson 10 May 06:09 BST 9 May 2021 Clevedon Sailing Club s Town Plate pursuit race was held on 9th May, a week later than scheduled due to insufficient winds. Conditions were trying with a gusty wind from the South testing the eleven crews, all rusty following the Covid lay-up. Race Officer Chris Cooper set a triangular course in the bay with the first leg to Wains Hill. The first starters were the Laser Radials with Robin Goff taking an early lead from Rhys Davis. Faster handicap boats started according to their handicap but none could make any impression on the 2 leading boats gradually increasing their gap at the front. Eventually the full rig Lasers managed to overtake the slower 420 sailed by Amy Turner and Rachael Elliott and Vision of Martin and Alison White whilst keeping the faster RS200s behind them. ....

North West Correspondent A 23-year-old man who pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing the deaths of two of his friends and causing serious injury to another person has been jailed for five years and three months at Donegal Circuit Court. Joseph Gilroy, from Lisnaskea, Co Fermanagh, had pleaded guilty to a number of charges including dangerous driving causing the deaths of two people, causing serious bodily harm to another person, driving without a licence and without insurance, and driving while disqualified when the car he was driving crashed in Bundoran in August 2018. A previous court sitting heard that on the night of the crash, Gilroy and his friends had been socialising in Fermanagh before travelling to Bundoran in Co Donegal to go to a nightclub. ....
