The summer of 2021 is a great time to travel across these Old West highways.
The West is a grand place to travel, and its many highways and back-country roads are a great way to enjoy its natural wonders, monuments and parks, historic towns and destination getaways. Since last year’s national pandemic shutdown, our hospitality, museum and tourism travel partners across the West have been eagerly awaiting the return of travelers. We believe the summer of 2021 is a wonderful time to get back on the road and enjoy the scenic beauty, cultural heritage and welcoming communities of the Western United States.
BAKER CITY â Friendship and a public art project are the reasons thereâs a colorful new bovine in front of the Baker Heritage Museum.
Molly Wilson, who serves on the Baker City Public Arts Commission, is heading a project to place cow sculptures around Baker City.
Her friends Cammy Warner and Diana Brown knew about the project. On a trip through Central Oregon last year, the trio discovered a large metal cow at an antique shop in Canyon City.
Wilson knew it was perfect.
All it took was a return trip with a horse trailer, and some hefting, and the blank canvas of a cow came to Baker City.
The Oregon Heritage Commission is offering grants to qualified museums for collections, heritage tourism, and education and interpretation projects. Awards typically range between $2,000 and $10,000.
State grants offered for historic properties, archaeological projects, museums
SALEM, Ore. (KTVZ) The State Historic Preservation Office is offering grants for work on historic properties and for archaeology projects. The annual grants fund up to $20,000 in matching funds for preservation projects. Both grant programs support the goals of the Oregon Historic Preservation Plan.
The Preserving Oregon Grants fund preservation of historic properties listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Work may include non-maintenance preservation like window repair, roof work, foundation projects, plumbing, and electrical needs. Recently funded projects include preservation of the following historic properties.
