34 trains to be outsourced In order to provide better passenger facilitation to the travellers LAHORE: Pakistan Railways on Wednesday decided to outsource commercial management of 34 passenger trains to the private sector in order to provide better passenger facilitation to the travellers. In this regard, the administration has opened the bidding process with 17 passenger trains already offered through open tendering. However, due to lack of interest among the bidders, only 11 out of the 17 trains could receive single bids. Meanwhile, several companies are particularly eyeing on 6 trains. Pakistan Railway Advisory and Consultancy Services Limited (PRACS), a subsidiary of the Ministry of Railways, has acquired 8 trains out of the 17 trains, including trains that run on crucial routes such as Tezgam, Hazara, Millat and Karakoram. According to sources, the highest bid was offered by PRACS for the Karakoram Express at an annual bid of Rs1.84 billion. ....
Railways suffers losses as train, truck collide June 27, 2021 A collision between a train and a truck took place between Wahab Shah and Tando Adam railway stations within the premises of Karachi Division on Saturday. According to a press statement from the Pakistan Railways, the accident was the result of sheer negligence on the part of truck driver, with his vehicle s colliding with the 47 Up Rehman Baba Express. The truck driver was crossing a manned level crossing while completely overlooking the necessary safety rules to be observed fully by the road users for such railways’ installations. No casualty was reported; however, several rolling stock items of the Pakistan Railways were badly damaged. “The truck has been confiscated and police are searching the driver to arrest him for his criminal negligence and disregard for observing rules and norms at level crossings,” said Divisional Superintendent Muhammad Hanif Gul. ....
