減少工作時間反而有助於提升工作效率？冰島政府自2015年起，規劃由公務員進行一項周休三日的實驗，實驗結果顯示「壓倒性的成功」，證明勞工在減少工時的情況下，產能不但沒有降低，效率甚至能進一步提升。這項實驗結果相當鼓舞人心，如今冰島全國近9成員工跟進，而其他國家也開始仿效跟進類似實驗。

研究員指出，參與實驗的員工對於新制的反饋良好，覺得沒有壓力負擔，不必擔心被工作累垮，並強調健自身的健康和工作、生活平衡獲得改善。
隸屬「自治」的研究主導人史壯（Will Stronge）對於研究結果表示，這項全球最大、在公部門進行的縮短工時研究，「在各方各面取得了獲得了全面性的成功」、「顯示出公部門是這項工時改革的拓荒者，是其他政府能夠學習的對象。」
