NEWTOWN Connecticut’s firearms industry slipped slightly during the coronavirus crisis in 2020, losing 100 jobs and seeing its economic production decrease nominally by 0.2 percent.
But Connecticut kept its place as a top 10 state in the economic impact of its firearms industry, according to a new report by the Newtown-based trade association for the firearms industry.
“Connecticut is known for its very strict gun laws, but the historical roots of the gun industry are right there along the Connecticut River where they still have a presence and where they are obviously doing well and continue to add to the economy,” said Mark Oliva, a spokesm ....

The 29 percent pension cut they suffered three and a half years ago is being restored as part of President Joe Biden’s $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan designed to pull the nation’s economy out of the economic mess created by the COVID-19 pandemic.

After several years of sitting vacant, a former butchery and restaurant space in Remington is getting a new life for a very familiar use.John Brown General and Butchery owner Robert Voss confirmed plans Thursday to open a new butcher shop and restaurant in the city building formerly occupied by Parts & Labor, a full-animal butchery and restaurant concept by acclaimed chef Spike Gjerde that shut down in 2018. John Brown will use the space similarly, including opening an eatery emphasizing local sourcing and with seating for at least 100.However, Voss emphasized that it will be meat-first, restaurant second.
