The Hell-Fire Half Marathon and 10k set to return in High Wycombe

Photos from the 2019 races A popular half-marathon is set to return after more than a year of uncertainty which left indoor and outdoor events cancelled or postponed due to the pandemic. The annual Hell-Fire Half and 10k races, previously known as Wycombe Half Marathon and 10k, will be held on Sunday, July 18, at 9.30am. Starting and finishing at Adams Park, home of Wycombe Wanderers FC, the half marathon route will take participants out towards West Wycombe before turning through the gates of the West Wycombe Park and through the National Trust grounds past the majestic house. From there runners will head, via roads and woodland tracks, to Wheeler End and Bolter End, enjoying the quiet, twisting, country lanes to Frieth, before turning towards Lane End and heading back towards West Wycombe.

Kings of Herts member's 30-year barbershop award

Brian Hocken, a bass singer with the Kings of Herts chorus. - Credit: Kings of Herts A singer from Harpenden has been awarded a badge commemorating 30 years’ membership of a barbershop association. Brian Hocken, a bass singer with the Kings of Herts chorus, welcomed the BABS, the British Association of Barbershop Singers, award with just a hint of embarrassment. “Thirty years’ membership for sure but, of course, no proper chorus singing for the last year because of the COVID-19 virus,” joked Brian. But he added: “With luck, we will be back to our weekly practice sessions and charity performances later this year and then I’ll start to fill in the missing 12 months!”
