Authorities arrested a Hutchinson man and seized some 40 pounds of suspected marijuana on Wednesday following an investigation involving the U.S. Postal Service and several local law enforcement agencies.
According to a Facebook post by the Reno County Sheriff’s Office, members of the Reno County Criminal Interdiction Unit along with members of the Postal Service Inspectors Division, Hutchinson Police Department s Special Operations Unit, and South Hutchinson Police Department executed search warrants simultaneously at two neighboring houses in the south part of Hutchinson.
Luis Manuel Gutierrez Jr. was arrested there and booked into the Reno County Correctional Facility on suspicion of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to distribute. He s also being held for probation violation in a 2019 case. His bond was set at $270,000, according to jail records.
A Wichita man was arrested Monday afternoon in Reno County on suspicion of attempted murder and kidnapping in connection with a domestic violence incident that resulted in the shooting of a 2-year-old child.
According to a release from the Reno County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect, identified as Kamden Joe Campos, was involved in the dispute with the woman and brought her to a dead-end road near Yoder Road and Sun City Road at Cheney Lake.
There, authorities said, Campos took the woman to the edge of the water “with intent to harm her,” but he was momentarily distracted, and the woman was able to jump in the car and flee the scene.

A Hutchinson man with a long history of fleeing from police was arrested Wednesday night in Rice County following a pursuit that started in Hutchinson when an officer tried to pull him over.
Members of the Hutchinson Police Department’s Repeat Offender Unit were investigating the man, identified as Scott Lee Lutz, 32, for selling illegal narcotics, according to a release from Hutchinson police Capt. Thad Pickard.
When an officer attempted to pull him over, however, Lutz fled.
The pursuit, which included the HPD and members of the Reno and Rice County sheriff’s offices, ended in Rice County when officers were able to stop the vehicle.
