Saturday, March 20, 2021 Back in January, the Purdy AmeriCorps Reading Coaches decided to sponsor a project in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. We worked with students in grades K-5 to make cards for residents of Lacoba Nursing Home, said Renae Neill, reading Coach director. In addition to our local project, we also publicized it on the MLK Day of Service website and invited people from all over the United States to join us by reaching out to senior citizens who are facing loneliness in this season of Covid shutdowns. We were thrilled to hear from over 100 people all over the country who were planning to join us. Most of them sent their cards to people in their own community. However, we received packages from people in Arizona, California, Colorado, Mississippi, Oklahoma and Texas. Contributed photo SKITS prepares for performances in April Laughter, tears, drama and more will all be found on the stage when performances by the Shell Knob in The Spotlight (SKITS) cast and crew get back underway. SKITS theater group is a staple in the Shell Knob community, with two performances each year aiming to entertain and inspire. This springs play, Farce of Nature, will be performed April 23-25 at the Central Crossing United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. ....
Saturday, March 6, 2021 Any Southwest Missouri resident 65 and older is now able to get a COVID-19 vaccine with CoxHealth. Participants must show proof of age and residency, and this is only for first doses of the vaccine. Individuals may sign up at www.coxhealth.com/covid/vaccine/first-dose-scheduling/ or by calling 417-269-1300. Online scheduling is suggested if possible. There are currently spots available in Monett, Lamar and Springfield. Additional spots will be added via the same link when more become available in the coming weeks. Pierce City Senior Center will be closed through March due to COVID. The center will evaluate the situation at a later date to consider re-opening when it is safe to do so. ....
