OLD SAYBROOK The town’s police chief received the go-ahead this week on a proposal to attract more tenured officers to the department by offering better pay and vacation benefits though he quickly turned questions about his force’s high turnover into criticism of the police commissioners.
Chief Michael Spera, who has denied that turnover is a “problem” for the department, suggested Monday night that the tenor of recent police commission meetings was not helping the department attract new officers.
