OLD SAYBROOK — The town’s police chief received the go-ahead this week on a proposal to attract more tenured officers to the department by offering better pay and vacation benefits — though he quickly turned questions about his force’s high turnover into criticism of the police commissioners.
Chief Michael Spera, who has denied that turnover is a “problem” for the department, suggested Monday night that the tenor of recent police commission meetings was not helping the department attract new officers.
