Barbadians and others who had earlier applied to pick cotton at Searles Farm, Newton, Christ Church; Redland Farm, Wakefield, St John, and Mt. Pleasant Farm, Parish Land, St Philip are advised that harvesting will start tomorrow, Monday, March 1.
The fields will open from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m., with all COVID-19 protocols in full effect on site, and at all collection points.
Workers may also pick and store at their own convenience.
Cotton pickers are advised that harvesting attire must comprise the following: long sleeve shirts, long pants, headgear (hat, scarf or head tie), and fully enclosed shoes. They should also have an umbrella and water. ....

Cotton harvesting in Barbados will be further delayed due to the period of national pause, from February 3 to 17.
Word of this has come from Agronomist at the Barbados Agricultural Management Company (BAMC), Nyah Nyhathu, who said that the delay to the start of cotton picking on January 22 at Searles Farm, Newton, Christ Church, was as a result of recent heavy rainfall.
In expressing regret at the extended delay, Nyhathu noted that all individuals who had registered to pick cotton would be contacted at the end of the “national pause”, and would be instructed on the way forward for cotton harvesting. ....
