Harbour bomb was found by scallop diver

JUST before the second lockdown, Phil Warry was diving for scallops off St Peter Port harbour when he spotted something on the seabed that did not look right.

Mat Le Maitre took this picture of Phil Warry measuring the device he found on the seabed 500 metres off the White Rock.
It turned out to be a Second World War ordnance.
A Royal Navy disposal team is set to arrive today to deal with the rusted device, which is lying more than 500 metres off the White Rock.
Mr Warry, an air conditioning engineer and keen diver, had been scalloping with a few friends in a different spot to usual. ....

Rectory Hill closed tomorrow for crash inspection

RECTORY HILL will be closed from 1pm tomorrow to allow Police to inspect the site of the fatal collision which took place on Monday.

Guernsey Police closed both ends of Rectory Hill, Castel, on Monday following a collision between a motorbike and a bus. (29519468)
Investigations into the collision between a motorbike and bus require officers to have full access to the road.
Diversions have been arranged by Traffic & Highway Services for the duration of the closure, although it is not yet known how long the inspection will take.
Bus routes are also being diverted. ....

It happened at about 5.45pm half way up Rectory Hill in the Castel and all three emergency services were called to the scene.
The road was completely blocked to traffic from the bottom of the hill to the top.
Civil Protection officers were also called to assist with diverting traffic away from the area. ....

The service, mothballed since lockdown one in March 2020, will be twice week, Monday and Friday, to start with.
More routes will be relaunched from the end of May.
But even if borders reopen without restrictions on 1 July, Aurigny will be waiting a few weeks before running a full schedule.
The airline said yesterday that regular flights to other destinations will not come online until 16 July.
The States-owned airline has a limited schedule until mid-July – just one or two flights a day to Gatwick and a couple of flights a week to Manchester. ....
