(Photo Illustration) PARKERSBURG More than half of Pleasants County’s 80-and-older population has received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, a Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department spokeswoman said Thursday. During a clinic Thursday at the Pleasants County Library, 165 members of that demographic received their second doses of the inoculation against the novel coronavirus, said Carrie Brainard, threat preparedness coordinator for the department. While that was happening, another 500 people were scheduled to receive initial doses of the vaccine at West Virginia University at Parkersburg. Meanwhile, sheriff’s deputies, State Police troopers, firefighters and other first responders were receiving first or second shots at the Health Department office in downtown Parkersburg, Brainard said. ....

The Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department’s clinic at the Center for Early Learning at West Virginia University at Parkersburg served 530 people ages 65 and older, said Carrie Brainard, threat preparedness coordinator for the department. As of Thursday afternoon there were approximately 6,000 names on the stand-by list, which people can register for online at http://bit.ly/movhdcovid or by calling the 211 information line. ....

(Melissa Lizotte | The Star Herald photo) The new $18.3 million Maine National Guard building in Presque Isle will officially open this spring, according to a Guard spokesperson. Construction crews are putting the finishing touches on the Northern Maine Readiness Center, located on a 10-acre plot at 6 Edgemont Dr., and expect to complete the work in February. The Readiness Center will be the primary location for four full-time staff members and at least 70 of the 100 soldiers in the 185th Engineer Support Company. ....
