'Debt level is very concerning': Regina Airport Authority releases 2020 report | 620 CKRM The Source

The Regina airport faced its fair share of difficulties during 2020.
The Regina Airport Authority released its 2020 annual report Wednesday which shows a growing debt level and increasing requests for financial support from the federal government. James Bogusz, president and CEO of the Regina Airport Authority, admitted during the airport’s virtual event that their facility’s debt level is very concerning.
Deficit of revenue over expenses in 2020 was at $11,852,384, while the airport’s cash flows are nearly depleted at $887,004. In 2019, cash flow was reported at $9,652,991.
Bogusz said this is primarily operating debt.
“We have to sell sandwiches, parked cars and have aircraft come and go to use the money to pay for that debt,” he explained. “This is debt that historically we have never had at all. This is why as we go into our line of credit, which we are in heavily right now, coming into June and July we are going to be ....

A Flair Airlines 737 arrives at Regina International Airport from Vancouver. The airline resumed its service to and from Regina on May 1.
As of May first, Flair Airlines is again offering service to and from Regina, and the news has Regina International Airport CEO James Bogusz feeling optimistic.
More aircraft will hopefully bring in more travellers, which of course may mean they ll rent a car, park their car, buy a sandwich, and all of that really helps the airport, said Bogusz Saturday morning, hours before the scheduled arrival of a Flair flight from Vancouver. ....

The air traffic control tower at the Regina International Airport will remain open, which is welcome news for many, including Regina-Wascana Member of Parliament Michael Kram.
He said there’s been a lot of negativity towards NAV Canada for potentially closing the tower.
“It’s been 100 percent negative, the thought of losing our control tower and losing flights in and out of Regina, and so when I saw the announcement I was very happy, it shows what our community can do when we all pull together,” Kram said.
Some other towers remaining open that were also initially under review include Fort McMurray, Prince George and Whitehorse. ....
