A speeding driver and repeat offender who travelled at about 135mph on the M6 in south Cumbria has lost his appeal against the ban he received.‬
‪A police officer in a stationary marked patrol vehicle spotted 30-year-old Christopher Emery’s black Ford Focus whizzing past junction 37 on the southbound carriageway just before 5pm on June 20 last year.‬
‪Believing Emery was breaking the speed limit, the PC used a laser device and recorded him travelling at 120mph.‬
‪“The officer immediately left his location to catch up with the vehicle,” prosecutor Niamh Ingham told Carlisle Crown Court, “reaching speeds in excess of 135mph in order to do so.”‬ ....

A DEBT-STRICKEN west Cumbrian mum who took her son on a professional shoplifting expedition has been sentenced by a crown court judge.
But Recorder Simon Killeen drew back from imposing any fine or prosecution costs on 42-year-old Ashley Winn after her defence barrister outlined how she had been left with £3,500 in rent arrears after leaving a former partner.
Winn was also looking after her severely autistic 20-year-old son, defence barrister Kim Whittlestone told Carlisle Crown Court.
Winn, formerly of Shore Road, Salterbeck, Workington, admitted shoplifting at a B&M Bargains in Whitehaven in April last year. ....

A court has heard how a debt-laden mum was caught red-handed on a “professional shopping expedition” while out with her son and a child.
Ashley Winn, 42, and a partner-in-crime, 33-year-old Haley Bower, were seen on CCTV by a security guard as they pilfered products from the B&M Bargains outlet in Whitehaven on April 29 last year. Winn’s son and female child were with the pair.
The guard watched Winn and Bower stash items into bags, with Bower even pouring in the contents of a cereal box she had ripped open. ....
