„Die erste Nachricht kam an einem Sonntag im September.“ Eine ihr unbekannte Person fragt die Ich-Erzählerin Ruth Ziegler, ob sie eigentlich von der Affäre ihres prächtigen Ehemannes wisse. Ja, weiß sie. Sie schon. Aber sonst weiß das kaum wer.
Von der Affäre hat Ruth erst nach seinem Unfalltod vor vier Jahren erfahren. Mittlerweile hat sie sich von dem Schock, der Trauer und der Wut befreien können und führt mit ihren beiden Söhnen und der Stieftochter ein zurückgezogenes Leben am Rand einer Kleinstadt unweit von Wien. In einem gemütlichen Holzhaus hat sie ihre Ruhe, kann sie als Drehbuchautorin schreiben und allein sein. Das ist sie gern, wissend, dass sie einen kleinen feinen Freundeskreis hat. Außerdem hat sie vor kurzem einen interessanten Mann kennengelernt, mit dem sie sich durchaus mehr vorstellen kann. So weit, so entspannt, so gut, bis zu dieser ersten Nachricht, denn es bleibt nicht bei einer, und bald bekommen auch Leute in ihrem Umfeld böse und ve ....

Reflections: George Frew, Cardington jeweler for 50 years

He was a familiar sight in the Cardington business district for 50 years.
George Frew, arriving in Cardington from Coshocton County in 1901, opened a jewelry store at 123 South Marion Street, located on the corner of South Marion and West Second streets, on Oct. 1. Mr. Frew, stricken with polio at the age of 13 months which paralyzed his left leg and upper left arm, had never walked.
In 1936 he and his wife, Katharyn (Hoffmire), a 1905 Cardington High School graduate, purchased a house just a block from his business. That house on West Second Street two houses west of the Park Street intersection and a short distance to his business allowed him to operate his wheel chair without assistance except entering and leaving it. ....
