The Russellville School District is releasing more information from the board of education after the superintendent was fired from his position. According to a statement, the board of directors evaluated the job performance of former Superintendent Mark Gotcher back in January. They determined that he had fulfilled his duties, but decided to not extend his contract. They say that since that time, a range of issues related to Gotcher s relationship with the board and school district staff led them to their decision to find new leadership. ....
Times Record Dr. Felicia Petty Smith s seven-year term on the board of the Arkansas Humanities Council (AHC) ended on Dec. 31. She was welcomed as a board member in January 2013. For the past two years, she presided as AHC’s chairperson. She served as a member under directors Paul Austin and Jama Best and was previously on the selection committee for the AHC director position. AHC presented Smith with a service award plaque to honor her volunteer work on the board, where she brought an array of educational experiences to the table. She was a committee member of the first strategic planning process, the REACH grant, the mini-grant, and major grant programs, and was a member of the director selection, financial, and executive committees. ....
The Vilonia School Board will have five special board meetings early in the month of January to interview superintendent candidates, an agenda provided to the Log Cabin by retiring superintendent David Stephens read. On five consecutive nights from Jan. 4 to Jan. 8, the board will meet at 6 p.m. and have dinner with five candidates provided to them by the executive recruitment firm McPherson and Jacobson. While specific interview dates for each candidate are not available, per board president Kent Charles, the final five candidates include Doug Adams, most recently of the Suffern School District in New York; Allen Williams, former superintendent of the Prairie Grove School District; Cathy Riggins, assistant superintendent of the Vilonia School District; Todd Edwards, principal of Bryant High School; and Danny Brackett, assistant superintendent of the Russellville School District. ....
The Russellville School Board met Tuesday to take care of year-end business, under the direction of acting superintendent Jeff Holt. Holt, Russellville Intermediate School assistant principal, director of safety and security and former football coach, is filling in as superintendent after the Russellville Board of Education granted a 30-day leave of absence request Monday to Superintendent Mark Gotcher.
