Celebrated filmmaker and stage director Pamela Sherrod Anderson will be hosting a virtual workshop on filmmaking Saturday, February 27th, at 10am CST. This exclusive virtual event is open to all as part of the No Malice Film Contest. The contest is currently inviting young filmmakers who are residents of Illinois between the ages of 11 and 21 to create short films that explore and promote racial healing. It is presented by the Roger and Chaz Ebert Foundation, the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum and the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library Foundation with a grant from Healing Illinois and the Chicago Community Trust. I am proud to announce that the Roger and Chaz Ebert Foundation is joining the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum and the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library Foundation in presenting the inaugural No Malice Film Contest for Illinois youth and young adults. Young filmmakers between the ages of 11 and 21 are invited to create short films that explore and promote racial healing. The Roger and Chaz Ebert Foundation will help run the contest and select winners in three age groups. The project is funded through the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library Foundation with a grant from Healing Illinois, a racial healing initiative of the Illinois Department of Human Services in partnership with The Chicago Community Trust. ....

Rita Coburn is set to direct Marian Anderson: The Whole World in Her Hands for PBS, while Wavelength’s founder and CEO Jenifer Westphal and president Joe Plummer will executive produce. Anderson is best known for her performance at the historic Freedom Concert on April 9, 1939, as part of a protest against racial intolerance on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. after being denied use of Constitution Hall by the Daughters of the American Revolution. Her performance inspired a young Martin Luther King, Jr., then a 10-year-old audience member and before he went on to become a major U.S. civil rights leader. ....
