Rio Bravo-Greeley Union School District fourth grader, Audrey Sheffield said that while she enjoys virtual learning, “I’m excited to go back to school and see my teachers in person and my friends in person,” she said.

Many local parents want what’s best for their children, but their opinions may differ on what that would mean: To return to school or to not.
“It makes it a lot harder here. It’s easier for her to throw tantrums or run out of the bedroom, saying she doesn’t want to go to school,” local mother,Jessica McCasland said. “She just logs off whenever she wants and says, ‘I don’t want to do this anymore.’” ....

Schools are allowed to stay open when COVID-19 surges, but have trouble staffing them


Rosedale Union School District is the biggest district in Kern County that brought general education students of all grade levels onto campus this fall. It has vocal support from its families, administration and board to bring students on campus as quickly as possible.
So the moment the district could, it welcomed students to campuses in person. The gradual rollout over the last six weeks was completed last week when the oldest students returned.
But it didn t last long.
Freedom Middle School closed its campus Thursday, a little over a week after opening, and the rest of the school district will switch back to distance learning next week. ....
