Unfortunately for Ipswich, it wasn t a homegrown footballer carving up the North Ipswich Reserve. A hat-trick by Palm Beach Currumbin winger Jett Forbes capped his team s runaway 44-12 win over Ipswich State High on Wednesday night. When Ipswich State High halfback Jake Self converted his team s second try, the home side looked every bit on target to cause a major upset over the defending Langer Cup champions. However, as they do to so many sides who drop their guard, Palm Beach Currumbin (PBC) punished every Ipswich mistake.

Katy Meza knows full well the pain distance learning is causing her son Matthew. The third-grader struggles with isolation, gets frustrated sitting in front of the computer for hours and is stalling academically.
Still, Meza says she’s not prepared for him to return any time soon to in-person schooling at Bryson Elementary School in South Gate.
Almost every family she knows has someone who has fallen ill with COVID-19. Her neighbor died of the disease, and his wife was hospitalized. And Meza has no confidence that her son’s school which before the pandemic often lacked toilet paper and soap can keep him safe or prevent him from becoming infected with the virus and bringing it home to his grandparents.

Subscriber only Rugby league is back with a bang, with the opening rounds of Connell Challenge and Meninga Cup played across the state this weekend. In matches today, it was a double celebration for the Wynnum Manly Seagulls who claimed the Connell Cup 22-12 over home side Norths, and then the Meninga Cup clash by 26-24. A bone-rattling tackle by Norths second rower Wesleyan Aiomata on opposite five-eight William Herbert had the crowd in rugby league heartland of Bishop Park roaring. It was a great start to the season.
