Three independents file for Youngstown mayor's fall race | News, Sports, Jobs

YOUNGSTOWN The winner of today’s Democratic primary for Youngstown mayor and Republican nominee Tracey Winbush have three independent candidates and a write-in wanting to challenge them during the Nov. 2 general election.
John White of 107 N. Belle Vista Ave., a retired businessman; Richard V. Hill of 1020 Genessee Drive, the supervisor in the Youngstown clerk of courts’ criminal traffic division, and Tayana C. Smith of 978 E. Boston Ave. filed as independents for mayor by Monday’s deadline. None has ever run for elected office before.
Also, Calvin Hill Sr. of 46 Lilburne Drive filed as a write-in candidate. The write-in deadline for the election isn’t until Aug. 23. Hill ran as a write-in four years ago and got two votes. ....

Tower sells for $1.15M | News, Sports, Jobs

YOUNGSTOWN The downtown Chase Tower building sold for $1.15 million at auction and once the sale is final, it will signal the end of Lou Frangos as a Youngstown property owner.
USA Chase Building LLC, a sister company of the Frangos Group, owns the 14-story, 128,741-square-foot Chase Tower at 6 W. Federal St.
Frangos, chairman of the Frangos Group, said his company decided to auction off the building.
Only 26 percent of the building is occupied, and Chase Bank is moving next month to Realty Tower Apartments.
The auction began Monday and ended Wednesday with a $500,000 minimum bid required.
Frangos’ company had an unpublished reserve threshold. If the sale price was below a certain amount, it didn’t have to sell. ....

Legal Arts owner plans to reopen long-closed downtown building | News, Sports, Jobs

Brian Angelilli, owner of the Legal Arts Building, announced Tuesday he plans to reopen the iconic downtown Youngstown structure. The adjacent parking deck is expected to reopen next month.
YOUNGSTOWN The owner of the Legal Arts Building is making exterior improvements to the downtown structure with plans to reopen it.
Brian Angelilli, who purchased the building in October 2019, said Tuesday that he wants to get the parking deck open by next month, and to put a breakfast-lunch business on the ground floor.
He mentioned Dunkin’ Donuts or a “mom-and-pop” restaurant at the site as there’s “a lot of foot traffic” at the downtown location at 101 Market St. that makes it a good spot for such a business. ....
