A Piece of Eden is a good-hearted film with many virtues, although riveting entertainment value is not one of them. It s a family comedy that ambles down well-trodden paths toward a foregone conclusion, neither disturbing nor challenging the audience. It was filmed in and around LaPorte, Ind., and is in limited theatrical release on its way to video. The only review it has collected so far comes from a Utah critic, Fawna Jones, who finds it predictable, and describes it quite accurately: This is a movie for those who generally stay away from the theater for fear of being offended and who like their movies to have happy endings. Going to a movie so you won t be offended is like eating potato chips made with Olestra; you avoid the dangers of the real thing, but your insides fill up with synthetic runny stuff. THREE OAKS â The final scene of âPrancerâ shows the magical reindeer joining the team pulling Santaâs sleigh through the sky, followed by an aerial view of a village that looks a lot like Three Oaks. Much of John Hancockâs 1989 Christmas tale (which starred Sam Elliott, Chloris Leachman, Abe Vigoda and Rebecca Harrell) was filmed in Three Oaks and the nearby New Carlisle area. But the community that Prancer and all of the other reindeer fly over before the end credits begin to roll was a model that still exists â in Three Oaks. Region Of Three Oaks Museum Board members Nick Bogert and Randy Miller have been restoring the main three sections of the Prancer scale-model version of Three Oaks on the third floor of the Three Oaks Township Library building where it has been in storage for quite a few years.
