Almost two weeks after the body of Canyon Lakeâs third drowning victim this season was recovered, first responders returned to look for a 26-year-old man who went missing early Sunday evening. Canyon Lake Fire and EMS Chief Darren Brinkkoeter said units from his department, Comal County Sheriffâs Office and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department game wardens were called to a cove just east of Boat Ramp 7, around 5 p.m. âItâs a unified search,â Brinkkoeter said around 8:30 p.m. Sunday. âRight now weâre looking for a 26-year-old male, with black shorts in the cove near Boat Ramp 7. On the fourth day of searching, divers Tuesday afternoon recovered the body of Joel Jijo, 22, of Houston, who disappeared while swimming on Canyon Lake on Saturday morning. Samuel Padgett, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department game warden, said Jijo, who wasnât wearing a lifejacket when last seen between Boat Ramps No. 5 and No. 6 on Saturday, was recovered by Houston Police Department divers in about 34 feet of water around 5 p.m. âFrom the beginning of the search there wasnât a moment where there wasnât at least one boat looking in the search area,â Padgett said of the four-day recovery effort by boats and divers from the TPWD, Canyon Lake Fire and EMS and the New Braunfels Fire Department. ....
