Driver involved in crash that killed Surrey teenager found not guilty of criminal negligence

VANCOUVER
The driver involved in a 2017 crash that killed Surrey, B.C., teenager Travis Selje, a promising athlete who spent years in the Whitecaps residency program, has been found not guilty on all counts.
Rituraj Kaur Grewal s verdict was delivered Thursday in B.C. Supreme Court, where she was found to have suffered a seizure behind the wheel on the day Selje was fatally injured.
Grewal was 22 at the time of the accident. Selje was just 17.
The court heard testimony that Grewal was having a medical episode on May 3, 2017, that resulted in her colliding with several vehicles in Surrey, including Selje s car, which was struck from behind at 64th Avenue and 176th Street. He succumbed to his injuries two days later in hospital. ....

Closing arguments are now underway in the trial of a Surrey, B.C., woman charged in connection with a crash that killed a young athlete.

'He was my soul': Trial begins for Surrey woman charged in crash that killed young athlete

VANCOUVER
The last time Sara Selje spoke with her younger brother Travis, he asked her to help him with his math homework for the first time.
“He was a smart kid, he never needed help with homework, much less math,” she recalled of the straight-A student. “It felt nice that he needed me.”
She remembered how the 17-year-old called out when he left the house for soccer practice that day, and said I love you as he left.
“He was a child when he was taken away,” she said. “I just want him back.”
A trial got underway Monday in New Westminster court for a Surrey woman charged in connection with a crash that fatally injured the beloved brother, son, and skilled young athlete who was a member of the Whitecaps residency program. ....
