Morris man who fled NJ admits to child sex assaults in the 1980s

Richard Ziegler, 70, admitted to sexually touching himself in front of two girls multiple times between 1981 and 1987. He pleaded guilty in the virtual court hearing in Morris County Superior Court to two counts of second-degree sexual assault.
Prosecutors will ask a judge next month to sentence Ziegler to 10 years in state prison, five years for each victim. Ziegler s attorney will argue for a total of five years, with each term running concurrently.
Ziegler will have to register as a sex offender, but will not be required to remain under parole supervision for life nor be made to serve 85% of his sentence before release. Such penalties, now allowed under state law, were not implemented at the time of the assaults, said ....

MARQUETTE TruNorth Federal Credit Union has chosen nine recipients for the 2019 TruNorth Community Grant.
Recipients include Upper Peninsula Family Solutions, Superior String Alliance, Cancer Care of Marquette County, Mia’s Wings, St. Francis Connection Center, Rotary Club of Ishpeming, Ishpeming Ski Club, Great Lakes Recovery Centers INC., and Hope Free Lutheran Church.
The TriNorth Board of Directors awarded the recipients in amounts of $1,000 or more. The funds will go to local non-profit organizations working to better our local communities by building handicapped accessible boat launches, providing education to local hospitals on infant loss, kitchen upgrades for community dinners, and much more. ....

Ishpeming Ski Club awarded $55K grant | News, Sports, Jobs

ISHPEMING The Great Lakes Sports Commission agreed to provide a $55,000 grant to the Ishpeming Ski Club recently to help them complete their iconic Suicide Bowl ski venue improvement project.
The proposed project is part of a five-year plan to improve and modernize the Suicide Bowl ski venue, developing it into a regional ski jumping and Nordic combined training facility that will attract local and international athletes.
“I’m happy to see improvements being made to the ISC facilities,” said Billy Demong, Olympic gold medalist and executive director of USA Nordic Skiing in a news release. “The ISC works very hard to foster and create a top-notch training program for Marquette’s youth and has been giving back to the area for well over 100 years.” ....
