WESTERLY, RI A Westerly man faces charges after police conducting a Sunday afternoon traffic stop say they seized 4 grams of hashish and a loaded 9mm handgun that was tucked into the man s waistband.
Richard Whyte, 56, was stopped by police on Rt. 1. In a report, a Westerly officer stated that he detected the strong odor of marijuana, and determined that Whyte s license and registration from Connecticut had expired. The officer said Whyte voluntarily relinquished a Kimber 9 KHX handgun with a bullet in the chamber and a full magazine. He added that the hammer was cocked back, that the gun was tucked into the man s pants, and that there was no holster. ....

The story of Jim Drake's first "Wing" rig

The story of Jim Drake s first Wing rig
February 15, 2021 |
Windsurfing
The idea of the first Wing rig came up in August 1981 when Jim Drake visited me in the surf editorial office in Munich. It was precursor of modern wing surfing.
Jim and I had been friends since 1977 when Surf-Magazin was founded, and my article about the true inventor of windsurfing was published.

In the meantime, during our surf tests on Gran Canaria, I had repeatedly observed flying fish that shot out of the water next to our boards and then often sailed dozens of meters next to us. ....

Canada’s new Afro-Canadian Contractors Association celebrated its launch the first day of Black History Month with its first president acknowledging that the ACCA has assigned itself multiple challenging mandates.
“We started talking about this organization three years ago, and we’ve had lots of meetings, but COVID sort of pushed it back,” said Toronto-based contractor Stephen Callender. “Then the George Floyd incident happened and we thought we should move faster.”
The group was formed in September with a six-person board of directors and it was decided February, Black History Month, was the best time to have a formal launch. The ACCA has strength in Toronto at this point but Callender said its reach will be national. ....

From subtle systemic racism in awarding contracts to outright hate-motivated incidents at job sites, a new Black builders association wants to lay the foundation for a fairer construction industry.
Sephton Spence of Kubbie Construction Inc. says seeing racist graffiti on construction hoarding and nooses left at the construction site at Michael Garron Hospital sped up the group s plans.
It s disturbing, but . it s not uncommon, said Spence. It is a very painful time to watch. So, you know, this is a continuation, but we ll continue the fight. ....
