Johannesburg - Former Passenger Rail Agency of SA (Prasa) chief executive Lucky Montana has launched a broadside against the Zondo Commission, accusing it of trying to protect Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan, former Transport Minister Dipuo Peters and former Prasa board chairperson Popo Molefe, who played “central roles in the demise” of the embattled agency.
According to his 447-page submission to the commission of state capture and seen by the Sunday Independent, Montana said Gordhan, who was Finance Minister at the time, tried to impose a public-private-partnership (PPP) model on Prasa’s R173 billion passenger rail systems modernisation programme in 2012. This was in addition to attempts by the Gupta family to manipulate Prasa’s rolling fleet renewal programme (RSFRP), which spanned 20 years, and was aimed at changing the travel experience in South A ....

The Department of Public Enterprises has come out in support of the decision by South African Airways (SAA) business rescuers to lock out members of the South African Airways Pilots Association (SAAPA).

This comes after the administrators issued a 48-hour notice to prevent nearly 400 pilots from accessing the company s premises until they agree to new employment terms and conditions.
The department’s spokesperson Richard Mantu says it agrees with the business rescue practitioners and their insistence on addressing the regulating agreement.
“As a shareholder on behalf of the government, the department believes that one of the critical areas for a restructured SAA to get off the ground is to reduce the high-cost structure caused by onerous contracts and high salaries and perks implemented under SAAPA’s regulating agreement. ....

Gordhan's department, two unions accept proposal on SAA salary payments, says Solidarity

Solidarity s aviation and defence organiser Derek Mans said the union s proposal was accepted by the Department of Public Enterprises.
The National Unions of Metalworkers of SA and the SA Cabin Crew Association blamed the department for employees being without full salaries.
The Department of Public Enterprises has said that it would not comment on public statements by unions on the matter.
Union Solidarity said in a statement on Friday afternoon that the Department of Public Enterprises had accepted its proposal regarding the salary deferment at South African Airways, following a week of harsh public statements between the department and unions. ....
