Five Miami Beach police officers are facing criminal charges after the rough arrests of two men at a hotel last week that were caught on camera, the Miami-Dade State Attorney s Office said Monday.
State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle said the five officers are facing first-degree misdemeanor battery charges in the July 26 incident at the Royal Palm Hotel.
They were identified as Sgt. Jose Perez, Officer Kevin Perez, Officer Robert Sabater, Officer David Rivas and Officer Steven Serrano. ....

5 Miami Beach officers face charges after the alleged use of excessive force during arrest inside hotel


Five Miami Beach police officers are facing criminal charges, accused of using excessive force during the arrests of two men at a local hotel last week.
Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle announced charges against Sgt. Jose Perez, and officers Kevin Perez, Robert Sabater, Steven Serrano and David Rivas at a news conference Monday.
The five officers have been charged with battery, a first-degree misdemeanor. Additional charges may follow, Rundle said.
Excessive force can never, ever, ever be an acceptable foundation for the policing of any community, Rundle said, adding that officers who forget that do a grave disservice to the people they have sworn to serve. ....
