Just after the hour in the crunch game against Shanghai Shenhua, Mooy, who has been in excellent form so far in the three games this season, picked up the ball just inside the opposition half, advanced to 25 metres from goal and then unleashed an unstoppable drive into the top corner.
Shanghai Port, as they were renamed earlier this year from Shanghai SIPG, were unable to start their campaign with three straight wins however as Cristian Bassogog earned a 1-1 draw for Shenhua with a stoppage-time penalty.
“It was a fantastic goal and one that was worthy of winning any game,” Port boss Ivan Leko told reporters. “Mooy has been in good form so far this season but it is unfortunate that we were not able to win the game from a good position and take the three points.”
