95—Fighting Pervasive Religious Indifferentism—Ralph Martin

Today’s Catholic culture is marked by a profound and settled religious indifferentism. In certain countries, the bishops’ conferences have practically made a policy against seeking converts from other religions (or lack thereof). Catholics, ruled by fear of human respect and compromised by their own private sins, are finding more and more reasons not to proclaim Christ’s moral teachings as well.
Ralph Martin, whose new book
A Church in Crisis: Pathways Forward is a comprehensive spiritual diagnosis of our present situation, joins the show to discuss the many factors contributing to religious indifferentism. Happy New Year! It’s time for the annual article in which members of the Catholic Culture staff look back on their reading in the past year and recommend the best, some published in 2020 and some not. Actually, this list is not confined to reading only. You’ll get book recommendations from Jeff Mirus, Phil Lawler and Mike Aquilina; book and film recommendations from James T. Majewski; and book, essay, podcast, music and (way too many) film recommendations from Thomas V. Mirus. Enjoy!

On the witness stand of a Boston courtroom, police Sergeant Stephen Green outlined the steps that led to a search warrant for an alleged drug dealer’s cellphone, which later led to a trove of incriminating text messages.
The Boston detective’s testimony in January 2019 helped seal a conviction and a four- to five-year sentence for drug trafficking.
But Green’s story, according to new evidence, was untruthful. A forensic investigator determined that Green had been fishing through the phone for more than four hours before applying for a warrant — even at one point watching the defendant’s personal sex videos. ....
