If Texas and Oklahoma leave the Big 12, what happens to the conference?

Jul 22, 2021 Big 12 leaders held an emergency meeting Thursday, and the schools that didn’t attend said everything in their absence. The league is hanging by a pair of threads one burnt orange, the other crimson and the scissors are looming. The conference’s reality has been an open secret for 10 years, since it last was shaken by realignment: Texas and Oklahoma are the premier athletic properties, and everyone else is along for the ride and hanging on for dear life. AP Sports Writer ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) Joey Gallo homered again, Jordan Lyles pitched seven strong innings after getting bumped from the rotation for one start, and the Texas Rangers finished a three-game sweep with a 4-1 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Sunday. The last-place Rangers have won three consecutive games for the first time since sweeping Houston at home from May 21-23, which they followed with an 0-9 trip on the way to tying a franchise record with 16 straight road losses. Texas is headed on the road again this time, a six-game trip that starts Tuesday at Oakland. The Rangers had a 3-19 slide after the sweep of Houston but now have won five of seven.

'This is too much!' Texas rain just won't stop and people are sick of it

For parts of southern and eastern Texas, it's raining again. Just like it did yesterday and just like it is forecast to do tomorrow. For residents accustomed to glaring sunshine and 90-degree heat at this time of year, the onslaught of stormy precipitation has come as a gloomy shock. But more than just putting a major damper on early-summer plans, this week's soaking has been yet another gut punch of devastating weather in a year full of ruinous.
