These young ladies are getting a taste of the aviation world this week. They are participating in a drone academy. It s centered around science, technology, engineering and mathematics. We learn how to do different um design processes with engineering. Like we designed our drone this week, we had to measure all of the different parts like the propellers, the batteries, kumari mars. It is a rising senior at Ramsey High School. She and these other young ladies are part of a group called Girls inc. The group provides mentorships and they fight for opportunities and rights for all girls. Jolly, 48, owner of Jolly Cakes &Treats, has decided to rename one of her bestsellers to “Magic City Velvet’’ during the month of July in honor of the city’s 150th birthday. (Birmingham, which was officially chartered as a city by state legislature on Dec. 19, 1871, is celebrating its 150th birthday throughout 2021.) Jolly said it’s ironic that the city’s 150th theme is “Built to Last’’ because she sees her company and herself as a survivor, just like the Magic City.

PEACE Birmingham Celebrates 25 Years Uniting Diverse Teens

By Michael Sznajderman Alabama NewsCenter For 25 years, small groups of Birmingham-area teens, from different races and different backgrounds, have met – one Sunday afternoon each month – to talk about issues of privilege, prejudice and social inequity. The gatherings go by the name PEACE Birmingham – for “People Engaged in A Cultural Exchange.” It’s a quiet initiative that many people in the Birmingham area don’t know about. But for the students and adults who’ve participated over the past quarter century, the impact has been life-altering. “It is such a great program,” said Seth Green, who participated in PEACE Birmingham some 20 years ago while in high school. Now a senior engineer at Alabama Power, Green recently became reengaged in the initiative as a volunteer adviser.
