PITTSFIELD â For one homeless person, the new daytime warming shelter at the Christian Center was a long time coming. At least four times, he said, he walked to the centerâs Robbins Avenue address hoping to find a space inside, out of the cold, only to learn it wasnât yet open. That forced him to kill time outdoors until he could return to the homeless shelter at the former St. Josephâs Central Catholic High School. âIt was rough,â said Java, who asked to be identified by his first name. That changed Tuesday, when he was one of a handful of people inside the new warming center, which now is open and staffed by the cityâs shelter provider, ServiceNet. At 8, Hadley Light already has made her mark. âSheâs always had this entrepreneurial mindset,â said Lenny Light, Hadleyâs father. Her latest venture might be successful, Light said, but more impressive is her desire to give back to the community. On Tuesday, the third grader at Williams Elementary School donated the $1,900 she has earned so far from her apparel company, Waves, to the Christian Center on Robbins Avenue to help the nonprofit fight homelessness. Light, who turns 9 on April 4, wants to ensure that the homeless âcan have homes like me, and food, and that they can have protection. âSometimes when I think about homeless people I feel bad for them,â Hadley said. âSo, I wanted to make up a company.â ....

Updated: 9:48 AM EST January 8, 2021 NEWINGTON, Conn. Police are looking for a suspect vehicle following a shots fired incident Thursday. Newington PD responded around 8:15 p.m. to the complaint in the area of Robbins Avenue and Main Street. After an investigation, officials determined that three gunshots were fired into a residence on Robbins Avenue. Police are looking for a dark colored 4 door sedan with a brake light across the trunk similar to a Dodge product.
