A Brush Valley man known for being one of the top auctioneers in Pennsylvania passed away yesterday.
Ralph Miller Stewart, best known to people as “Pete,” was born in 1920 and went on to serve in the U.S. Army during World War II at Fort Knox.  Stewart became a licensed auctioneer in 1952 and continued to preside over auctions until the age of 99.  In 1977, he was named Auctioneer of the Year, and he was inducted into the Auctioneer Hall of Fame in 1994.  He also served on the board of auctioneer examiners for 25 years. ....

James William “Bill” Compton, 61, of Clarksburg, passed away Saturday, March 13, 2021, at St. Andrews Village, Indiana.
The son of James T. and Mary Jo Compton, of Clarksburg, Bill was born June 30, 1959.
Bill graduated from Saltsburg High School. He married the love of his life, Linda, on October 26, 1984. Together they had two delightful daughters that he treasured. Bill wanted to give his children the understanding that no matter what happens in life, be grateful for life itself because it is a gift….. and never give up.
After high school, Bill continued to help his father and worked on the family dairy farm and bred Registered Holsteins. He was a member of the Clarksburg Trinity Presbyterian Church where he was a Deacon. In 2001 he experienced a farming accident that caused a severe head injury and left him unable to farm. Even though he was unable to continue his work on the farm, his spirit did not quit. He tried hard to help other ....

On Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2021, Jean Clark went to be with her Lord.
The daughter of the late Joseph Earl and Ruth Corum Hocker, Jean was born Sept. 21, 1940 in Sewickley.
She grew up in Ambridge and graduated from Quaker Valley High School. After high school, Jean began the passion of her life; helping and caring for others. She graduated in 1961 from the Presbyterian University Hospital School of Nursing. While attending nursing school, she met the love of her life, Edwin M. Clark, Jr. Jean and Ed were married on the Pitt campus at Heinz Chapel on Dec. 23, 1961. They resided in Pittsburgh while Ed finished his football career at Pitt and then attended law school. During that time, Jean worked at Magee Women’s Hospital and also worked for Dr. George. Jean and Ed moved to Indiana, where she continued her nursing career and worked for Dr. Kauffman, Dr. Cassidy and Dr. Neale. Devona J. (Craig) Mattini, 69, of Indiana, passed away on Friday, December 25, 2020, in Latrobe Hospital.
She was the daughter of the late Russel C. and Rube E. (Dixon) Craig; she was born in Indiana on February 7, 1951.
Devona was a 1969 graduate of Elders Ridge High School, and was a caring wife and mother.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Indiana, where she sang in the choir for many years. Devona was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary, in her free time she enjoyed sewing and spending time with her grandchildren and her four footed friend, Teddie. ....
