Joe Biden's stimulus: What Alabama can expect from COVID-19 relief bill


President Joe Biden on Thursday signed a new $1.9 trillion COVID-19 stimulus bill into law, directing $1,400 checks to individuals and funding additional vaccine distribution.
Alabama alone is expected to receive billions in funds, and the legislation ranges from housing assistance to rural health care relief. Here s a look at what Alabama is expected to receive in this new influx of funds:
When will you get a $1,400 stimulus check?
The American Rescue Plan legislation will inject new direct payments into some bank accounts across the country, but not everyone will get a check. 
The $1,400 payment, expected to begin rolling out as soon as this weekend, is the third and largest stimulus check authorized in the last 12 months. The first relief bill of the pandemic authorized $1,200 direct payments in March 2020, and an additional $600 payment came late last year.  ....

A new report from an Alabama public policy organization says the COVID-19 pandemic has revealed barriers to opportunity for the state’s workers, and recommends ways to reverse the damage.
Alabama Arise on Monday put out a report, “The State of Working Alabama 2021,” which suggests lawmakers expand Medicaid and guarantee paid sick leave, as well as improve the state’s unemployment insurance system, among other recommendations. ....
