Barr mute as Labor locals speak up for Collaery

Lawyer Bernard Collaery… charged with conspiring with Witness K and unlawfully disclosing information to the Timor-Leste government.
“Where, oh where, was Chief Minister Andrew Barr? I have searched the records and can find not a single indication of his support for Bernard Collaery,” writes “The Gadfly” columnist
ROBERT MACKLIN.
IT was good to see Canberra’s Labor senator Katy Gallagher and MPs Andrew Leigh, Alicia Payne and David Smith joining the protest against the outrageous prosecution of former ACT Attorney-General Bernard Collaery last week.
Robert Macklin.
But where, oh where, was Chief Minister Andrew Barr?
I have searched the records and can find not a single indication of his support for the lawyer whose only “crime” seems to have been a willingness to represent a whistleblower who dared reveal that the Howard government had spied on Timor-Leste for commercial gain.  ....

AstraZeneca… I can't wait for my second shot

Line them up… columnist Robert Macklin can’t wait for his next shot of AstraZeneca.
“In the few days immediately after my AstraZeneca shot, I was suddenly aware that my lungs felt much more expansive. The 50 laps in the pool – previously a bit of a struggle towards the end – were easy as pie,” writes
ROBERT MACKLIN.

ON March 29 I had my first AstraZeneca shot, a little ahead of schedule because for the last three years I’ve been engaged in a rear-guard action against Chronic
Obstructive Pulmonary Disease – COPD – a polite version of emphysema.
It’s caused by smoking. I quit 30 years ago, but them’s the breaks. ....

Lee ruffles Ratters as Libs' sap starts to rise

IAN MEIKLE.
ruffle the feathers of Greens leader, government minister and anti-gas man Shane Rattenbury
in the Assembly the other day.
Ian Meikle.
Ratters had been nudged to admit that the spanking new $300 million Civic office block, built to house 1100 ACT public servants, is powered by… (oh, no; oh, yes)
gas!
Despite contradicting his own government’s (subsequent) policy on smart energy, the ACT has signed a 20-year lease with an additional option of a further five years that could lock in the power source for up to 2046.
Given he’ll be 76 when the lease expires, there’s a bleakly amusing irony that the Greens leader will see out his political career in an office heated in winter and cooled in summer by reviled gas. Only losing an election, it seems, will save him.  ....
