The crimes occurred in the Trout Creek and Pine Grove areas. In the ATV case, two side-by-sides were later recovered in the Bon Wier area and one suspect was jailed, but their second suspect remains at large, as does a stolen 4-wheeler. Meanwhile, 17-year-old Harvey Deon Davis, Jr., of Newton, is currently free from jail on a $7,500.00 bond after being charged with one count of theft of property. Newton County Sheriff Robert Burby says that one person has been arrested and deputies have a warrant for a second person in connection with the recent theft of three all-terrain vehicles. Burby said earlier in the month that two utility vehicles, commonly known as a UTV, and a 4-wheeler were all taken in the Pine Grove and Trout Creek Communities. Later, on July 13th, deputies recovered both of the UTVâs in the Bon Wier area and one suspect was arrested. Burby said Friday that the suspect who was arrested was 17-year-old Harvey Deon Davis, Jr., of Newton, and he has been charged with Theft of Property. Burby said Davis is currently out of jail on a $7,500.00 bond. ....
What reportedly began as an electrical fire in a breaker box left a convenience store in central Newton County damaged by smoke and flames. Sheriff Robert Burby says it happened at about 7:00 Thursday morning at the Citgo Sunshine Grocery, located on Highway 190 at Farm to Market Road 1415 in the Bon Wier Community. Burby said firefighters from Bon Wier, Newton, and Trout Creek all worked together to battle the blaze. ....
