The 46-year-old Holland Patent resident and village of Whitesboro police chief, who died Feb. 2 of cardiac arrest, hated the spotlight, according to his friend Dana Nimey-Olney. He hated having his picture taken, to the point it was a joke between us where I would make sure I got his picture, she said. So, other ones I ve snuck of him over the years, while he was working or whatever, are the pictures that we have. Nimey-Olney, the village historian and a former village clerk, said she first met Buley when he was 23 years old and starting part-time as a police officer in Whitesboro. Whitesboro seeking FEMA funding for small businesses affected by flooding The village of Whitesboro is seeking FEMA funding to help small businesses in areas with frequent flooding. In September, a federal buyout program made $20 million available to purchase homes in flood-prone areas of Whitesboro. Mayor Robert Friedlander says now that residents have received much-needed assistance, the focus is shifting to small businesses. “The recent project that was sponsored by the Town of Whitestown that secured $20 Million in funding for residential property acquisition in the village is a huge win for residents that have continued to suffer the effects of the repeated flooding,” he said. “We are looking to keep the positive momentum going by pursuing relief for businesses.” ....
Whitesboro Mayor Robert Friedlander announced Wednesday that the village is actively seeking flood mitigation funding for area small businesses. Friedlander says the funds being sought are part of FEMA’s Hazard Mitigation Grant Program, with this particular grant aimed at property acquisition of areas that are heavily impacted by flood events. The pool of money available totals $3.7 Million statewide, which is a fraction of the $20 Million already secured by the Village of Whitesboro for residential acquisition. Friedlander says $3.7 Million to be awarded and disbursed statewide will make this grant extremely competitive, but there is no way that we were going to let that deter us from going after it. In an effort to be successful in acquiring the grant, the Village Board approved the hiring of the MRB Group out of Rochester to better their chances of getting the grant.
