The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns will have to continue to add to their current softball win streak without the services of one of their top players, at least in the near future. Louisiana head coach Gerry Glasco announced on Monday that shortstop Alissa Dalton recently suffered a hand injury that will require surgery. The injury will keep Dalton out for an indefinite period of time with no timetable for her return. A senior from Cypress, Texas, Dalton is a two-time preseason Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year. This season, Dalton is hitting .378, second on the team, to go along three home runs, 21 runs batted in, and eight stolen bases, after hitting .290 with a homer and ten RBI s last season. ....
The Ragin’ Cajuns finally got to play a home game. No. 8 Louisiana run-ruled visiting Eastern Illinois University, 9-0, to win its home opener at Lamson Park on Tuesday night and improve its season record to 5-0. HOW IT HAPPENED: After getting zero hits and only one base runner in the first two innings, the Ragin’ Cajuns opened up the game with a six-run third inning. Bailey Curry led off with a single into left field and then Kaitlyn Alderink followed with a single up the middle which scored Jenna Kean who was pinch running for Curry. Alissa Dalton then singled into right but Alderink was thrown out at home plate. ....

The outfield looks to be strong against this season, with the ability to provide power, speed, and defense. Ciara Bryan, a transfer from Georgia, who was tabbed a first-team Preseason All-American by D1Softball, will be a fixture in the UL outfield this season. A left-handed hitter, Bryan hit .330 in three seasons with Georgia, to go along with 14 home runs and 78 runs batted in, while also accumulating 33 stolen bases. Bryan, who has one season of eligibility remaining, started 22 games in centerfield for Georgia last season, while starting in right-field in another six games. ....
