This case should not be seen in isolation; the track record of NAB has been unsatisfactory as almost every PML-N leader, who was put in detention by NAB, is getting relief from higher courts due to poor investigation. The courts need solid evidence and don’t believe in made-up stories. Most of the NAB cases are based on the charges of possessing assets beyond means. Let this be stated categorically that if this clause is applied on the people of Pakistan, a majority of them will fail to justify their assets. Over the last 70 years, there has been no check on corruption. The country needs special laws to handle such cases. The authorities have to set a specific criterion for these charges. In the absence of proper laws, we will be chasing shadows in the dark.
