Ranchi: Citizens staying home for large part of 2020 will bid farewell to the year from home as most leading hotels and clubs in the capital have decided not to host any year-end events on New Year’s Eve (NYE) in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. While the state’s cumulative daily caseload has been on a downward trend since last couple of months, the situation in Ranchi remains grim with double-digit new cases on a daily basis. Most party spots have chosen to end the year on quiet note. Radisson Blu, a five-star hotel near Kadru, will only lay out a special dinner buffet for couple and families looking to dine out on NYE. Speaking to TOI, general manager Shantanu Guha Roy said, “Unlike in the past, we have decided to completely do away with the New Year bash. RANCHI: The district administration has asked Ranchi Police to keep a vigil on revellers ahead of Christmas and the New Year in view of the pandemic. Notably, the Ranchi district has reported the bulk of the fresh cases in the state in the last few days. Ranchi had reported 104 of the 209 new Covid-19 cases in the state on Tuesday. Ranchi deputy commissioner Chhavi Ranjan said: “Police teams would keep a close eye on popular picnic spots in and around Ranchi to ensure that social distancing and other Covid protocols are followed. They have been asked to strictly implement the norms.” The district authorities have intensified PCR patrolling in view of the festivities. ....

RANCHI: Police on Wednesday confirmed that the extremist killed during an encounter in a forest near Ketari tola under Nagri police station of Ranchi district on Tuesday was PLFI area commander Punai Oroan. Ranchi rural SP Naushad Alam said the family members of Oraon identified the body on Wednesday. He said the body would be handed over to the relatives following due procedures. Alam said Ranchi Police received a tip-off on Tuesday that a PLFI group had entered the city with an intent to commit crime. He added that even as police were carrying out a checking drive in Nagri, four PLFI rebels fired at the police from two bikes and tried to flee. ....
Ranchi: Police on Thursday announced bounty and released names and photographs of a dozen top CPI (Maoist) leaders and appealed citizens to provide information about them. This comes a week after the cops announced rewards on members of the outlawed outfit People’s Liberation Front of India (PLFI). According to the notification, a bounty of Rs 1 crore each has been announced for Misir Besra, Prashant Bose, Anal da and Asim Mandal while Rs 25 lakh each has been declared for Chaman alias Lambu, Lalchand Hembram alias Anmol Da, Mochhu alias Mehnat and Ajay alias Ajay Mahato. Rs 15 lakh bounty each has been announced for Amit Munda alias Sukhlal Munda and Suresh Singh Munda. Rs 10 lakh each has been announced for Jivan Kandulna alias Patras Kandulna and Maharaj Pramanik. ....
Ranchi Police nab 2 in ATM theft case of 2019 Out of Rs 4.07 cr booty, cash worth Rs 98 lakh recovered Ranchi Police on Thursday arrested two aides of ATM custodians, who had stolen Rs 4.07 crore cash from the city, meant for 20 ATMs in December 2019. They also recovered cash worth Rs 98 lakh, which is a portion of the stolen amount, from the two arrested men Rajkumar Srivastava and Prabhash Kumar. Kumar and Srivastava, though not directly involved in the crime, had kept the amount in their possession. “We had arrested the two prime accused in January 2020 itself and recovered more than Rs.2 crore cash from their possession,” said officer in-charge of Sadar Police Station Saryu Anand, adding that the two were already in jail for the crime. ....
